Kate Moss dabbles in the dark art of being chubby

For such a momentous announcement it is staggeringly difficult to find in the gossip magazines. But there it is, buried in a story in NW about the British model Kate Moss dabbling in the dark art of being chubby. “Malnourished women aren’t interesting any more. They’re depressing. Fat people, meanwhile, look better every day. Because they look careless.”
This isn’t Moss speaking, or NW. It’s the British newspaper The Times declaring that, at a time of recession, the plumpish look has become a restorative, rather than repulsive, ambition for us all. This is a colossal declaration. Mind-spinning, convention-crushing, support pant-burning stuff. Fat people are hot.
It should be front-page news except, of course, the gossip magazines would be put out of business if the general public caught wind and hastily lost interest in spindly famous females.
Gossip magazines only exist because of spindly famous females. If they go out of fashion, there is just actress Kirstie Alley and her larger figure to fill the pages until Victoria Beckham, Angelina Jolie et al can eat enough lasagne to fit in.
Moss has spent her entire life putting whatever she likes into her system without it affecting her tiny but tall appearance. Frustrated women the world over have had no luck doing the same thing, leading them into a perpetual dieting hell and a complexly psychological attraction to the lives of professionally gaunt celebrities. Then Moss chubs up. NW reports her as happily declaring, “I am a woman now.” This is cause for celebration but is also an immensely irritating comment for generations of females whose normal size was seen as second-rate. It’s the closest thing to an admission Moss’s former frame was more coat stand than human being.
But perhaps there is hope. Woman’s Day and New Idea have published photographs of actress Julia Roberts happily wearing a bikini and some tummy fat on a beach. WD’s main covergirl is a slimmed-down but not emaciated Magda Szubanski and even Grazia features a cover story about actress Kate Winslet looking overjoyed – in a pair of high underpants – about her “diet break”. It may take another quarter-century until skinny is truly dead but at least savouring rather than self-delusion is finally hip.
lol a few of the comments folks submit are so silly, in many instances i think about whether they in fact read the articles or blog posts and content before writing or whether they simply just look at the title of the post and submit the first thing that drifts into their heads. in either case, it is useful to read smart commentary from time to time as opposed to the very same, traditional post vomit which i generally , observe on the net i’m off to have fun with a couple of hands of zynga poker regards
